Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #34-Buttons!

Hi friends! It's March 1st (what?!) and today I'm super excited to share my project for our brand new Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #34-Buttons!! Just a little tid bit about me: when I was a young girl, I started a button collection. I didn't sew or use them for anything, I simply loved to look at them and collect all kinds of them. I bet my Mom still has that old button collection stored away somewhere in her house. I had forgotten how much fun it is to play with buttons and to incorporate them into projects! Well, I can surely tell you that I have re-discovered my love for buttons!!
Here's my mixed media canvas with lots of buttons--20 to be exact! I used a resin sacred heart from Sandra Everston's Relics & Artifacts line and I also had a chance to use my beautiful Swarovski crystal "woman" symbol, which I placed in the center of the heart. I'm calling it "The Heart and Soul of a Woman". This is why. I've found that life is a continuous journey. It's been a long road for me to discover that my heart and soul completely belong to God, thanks to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He has stuck by me through thick, thin and everywhere in between. When I'm the most lost, confused and disoriented--when I'm drowning in shark infested waters--He keeps me afloat. What a great comfort it is to know without a shadow of a doubt that, though it all, God has my back. He has captured my heart and my soul belongs to Him alone. This canvas wasn't planned, it just sort of happened and all those feelings and emotions came with it. So this piece kinda means a lot to me.
After covering everything with gesso, I added color with a variety of shimmer paints and gelatos. I also added some rub-on words, stamping, stenciling and microbeads for more texture and interest.
I hope that you've been inspired to create something beautiful with buttons! And I hope that you'll join in our Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #34-Buttons this month too!! We have an awesome sponsor and prize for 1 lucky artist so stop by the blog for details on how to play!  Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a wonderful, creative and blessed day!

This piece truly spoke to me Lindsey. The heart as the core of the piece and all the rivulets of life connected to it with the buttons, flowers and beads.
The colours are so soothing, I could look at it forever. Thankyou for the inspiration. X
