Grateful Everyday Mixed Media Canvas

Hello my friends! Hope all is well with you! Today I'm sharing another mixed media piece I made on an 8x10 Winsor & Newton canvas board. These are great for practicing mixed media, watercolor, painting, etc. because they are inexpensive and not too large, so the commitment to complete one isn't huge and if I mess up, no worries! I found mine in a 12pack on Amazon. And of course, I brought out my favorite go-to mixed media art supplies from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft to get started! Come along and see how this canvas came together! I'm linking it to the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #8-Something New For The New Year. I used this fabulous Flower Of Life stencil from Stencil Girl for the first time since winning it last Fall.
First, I found a wonderful quote I liked from my Crafty Secrets "Words From The Heart" Book and I tore around the edges of it. Tearing helps to create a more unified and seamless look once it's adhered to the canvas. I used Gel Medium. (sorry for the blurriness)

Next, I painted a layer of Gesso over the entire canvas, except the quote. Now, my canvas is prepped for watercoloring with Design Memory Craft Gelatos®

After coloring along the top with white, silver and different blues and purples, I spritzed the colors with water and blended with my fingers, letting the color drip down. This made quite a mess and was so much fun!! I quickened the drying process between each step with my heat gun.
Now I mixed together a scoop each of Whipped Spackle and Glass Bead Glitter Gel. If you visit often, you may have noticed that I love to mix these two textural elements together to create the most yummy and sparkly embossing paste! Then I spread it over this really cool circle stencil from TCW and added some stamping in black and white inks, Prima flowers, hemp twine and a few sequins. Finally, I colored with Black Licorice Gelatos around the entire canvas and blended with water and my finger. I've noticed myself doing this a lot on my mixed media canvases...it seems to create a sort of a natural frame and I like it. I also dabbed a bit of Gesso over the flowers and edges to create a more vintage-distressed feel. Here are a couple more close-up shots....and I'm joining in this week's Word Art Wednesday challenge #165-Anything Goes as always, and faith based or inspirational art.
I hope you enjoyed it and thanks so much for stopping by!
Have a creative and very blessed day!!

Lovely Linsey, I am finding the gesso that comes with gelatos really thin ans runny . Do you notice that I am using regular artist gesso .....Your piece is beautiful so I see it is working for you ..Lis
