I know, right? Hehe. Now, these are pretty simple to put together, but keep in mind that I did it my way and that's not always the easiest way to go. If you feel that doing the process a bit differently along the way works better for you, go for it! For example, I hot glued the pointy hats, but you may want to stitch them with a needle and thread. I used felt, but you may want to use different fabrics. All of this is just fine as I have no claim to inventing these little guys. As with just about everything, I found them in a picture elsewhere online but there was no link to them or how to make them, so I just took the inspiration and ran with it. You are welcome to do the same. Either way, I hope you try making at least a couple of these because they are so much fun and too cute, if I do say so myself!
Here's what you'll need:
- Pinecones of various sizes picked up from nature walk or store bought
- Round Wooden Beads of various sizes
- Darice Mini Jingle Bells (1/4" size used here)
- Felt in various colors (red, white, bright pink, lime used here)
- Scissors
- Black Marker for eyes (ensure that it won't run on wood; I found this out the hard way--sharpie did NOT work for me. I found one in my stash that worked, but I don't know the name of it.)
- Ad-Tech Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks (needle and thread for hats if you so choose, but you'll still need a hot glue gun)
- circle punch or scallop circle punch for base to stand them up
- Additional trims and accessories, if desired
-Trim a rectangle piece of felt about 3"x3 1/2" size, then begin to roll it from the long corner, making a "cone" shape as you roll it down to the base (pointy at the top, wider at the base-use the ball to fit the base). Use a couple pins to hold in place, if desired.
-Trim excess felt parallel to the long side.
-Trim straight across the base. Now you have your basic pointed hat shape.
-Hot glue or stitch the hat along the long side, then hot glue the hat to the top of the wooden bead, making sure the seam is in the back so it doesn't show.
-Now, cut a piece of matching colored felt about 1/2"x5" or however long you want the "scarf" to be. Make 4-5 cuts approximately 1/2" in from each end.
-Hot glue the wooden bead head to the pinecone body, then wrap the scarf around the "neck" and lower part of the wooden bead (mouth and nose area) securing together with hot glue gun.
-Draw in the eyes.
-Attach the mini jingle bell to the very top of the pointy hat with hot glue gun or fabric adhesive of choice. Bend top of hat a bit to make it look more realistic and worn.
-Add trim around edge of hat and scarf, if desired.
-Also add a few little accessories for your pinecone people to hold, if desired. This can simply be little snippets off things you already have, like a faux pine tree branch, berries and glittery balls or even a little wrapped present easily made with cardstock and designer paper or washi tape. Attach with hot glue.
-Secure the base of pinecone to scallop circle with hot glue so he stands up straight. And your pinecone person is complete!
I hope you enjoyed this little tutorial and find it inspiring enough to make some fun pinecone peeps too! Please do share with me if you do, I'd love to see what you come up with! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. As always, have a wonderful and blessed day, my friends!
